FAQ, or Frequently Asked Questions, get their own page on this website. Even in these early days it’s  clear to me that I should create at least one post for “FSC”- Frequently Stated Comments- from folks who visit this website for the first time. Some variation of the post title has been said to me repeatedly; live, in emails, or through social media. I felt the same reaction when the homepage first appeared on my screen.

The image is a 19th century painting by Norwegian Johan Christian Clausen Dahl, depicting a scene from the Bergen area. The period in which he worked was labeled Romantic, and you can see why. His love for the mountains, for his country and countryside, is evident from first glance. It’s true, specific art techniques are used to depict the expansiveness of the view, the glowing light. But the love and awe shine through. Later artists  found this style to be a bit “over the top”, and perhaps it was, when applied in the treatment of trivial subjects. But I ask you, how can ANY style be accused of exaggerating magnificent vistas like these?

For comparison purposes, check out a few more of the photos from my trips. These scenes are in or around Ytre Arna, Mari’s small village outside Bergen. Even on a foggy morning the views are unforgettable.

Picture this as a view from Mari's window, looking out across the fjord.
